General anesthesia is a dental sedation option available at White Cedar Dental. You will get medication that will make you either almost unconscious or totally unconscious -- deeply asleep -- during the procedure. While you are under general anesthesia, you cannot easily be awakened until the effects of the anesthesia wear off or are reversed with medication.
Like its medical counterpart, the use of general anesthesia in dentistry will render you totally unconscious and unable to feel pain during dental surgery. In this unconscious state, there is also an absence of fear and anxiety; it's for this last reason, in fact, that general anesthesia is sometimes used not only for complex dental treatment, but is also occasionally recommended for children and adults who experience acute dental anxiety.
Dentists who are authorized to use this type of anesthesia must go through special training. General anaesthesia is performed at White Cedar Dental Care in Barrie, Ontario under the expert supervision of Dr. Grant Lu MD, CCFP, FRCP(C) - who has extensive training and experience as Medical Anaesthesiologist. He is ACLS (Advanced Life Support) and PALS (Paediatric Life Support) Certified.
